The Shaft < 2 maps in 1 >
< Commander: While we have been trying to exploit the Aliens magnetic properties, in our defence systems, they have learned to use their physiology to exploit our Mag-Lev systems. They are inbound to one of our processing facilities, now. >
< A large volume of ore is processed and exported off planet at this station. It is crucial that this facility is protected against this incursion and a defensive grid established against any future raids. >
< Well, … Commander, as expected, the bubble seems to have burst, and the "Super Commander" fad has fizzled. Your face is no longer on the side of fast food drinks, breakfast cereals or kids vitamins. Although you still appear to be endorsing a "super, stress sweat stopping de-odorant injection" product, your public persona is now largely associated with the selling of High Commands latest "Savings Bond" issuance. The propaganda mill has been phased out as the text packets slowly ceased coming in. The kids have new heroes to text to these days. >
< ps. My son wants me to tell you that to him "You Rock!-and always will!" >
This map has two distinct and different paths and can play like two different maps:
– there is a reason for this – some people will have strong feelings about one of the routes provided and would not play the map.
….. one is the shaft – it is an experiment i tried, with creating a vertical kill zone
– it works – but can be awkward, rotating might be required and you need to be careful not to zoom into an object
– it is possible to play smoothly with no graphic hiccups if attention is paid to the cameras elevation when moving into the shaft
– i realize that many players will not like this concept or how it plays – so i have provided
….. the other path – it is a traditional design with horizontal kill zones but with enough space between them for healers to be a headache
my goal was to set it up so both paths are a definite challenge, with scores that are comparable and do not indicate the path used
– the shaft path is a little bit easier in terms of difficulty (i think)
enjoy
Interesting concept.
Looking to the story leaderboard points it would be interesting to know who achieved the results which way.
i wanted to , but could not figure out how to do that
I believe there’s no other way than asking.
my best score so far came from
tips on Navigating the “shaft” ( i don’t if this the case for everyone )
– i set the lowest zoom setting to be able to move in and out of and build on the lowest platform without conflict
– then two mouse wheel clicks up and the same is true of the second (from the ground) platform
– and the third platform is the same
i have played the shaft where after 2 rotations -to put the camera over the cores -i didn’t rotate again .. and built on all the squares on all the platforms with out the graphics glitch
the secret seems to be one click at a time with the mouse wheel and be careful of camera elevations when mousing into the shaft
i hope this helps
Yes 2 ways, an ordinary one and an uncomfortable one for players who want to try a really new idea and don’t fear the competition.
Great map…two ways to kill off the incoming hoards 🙂
