A bridge, with several defensive platforms, (or ‘petals’,) crossing between two islands, one with a small town on it and the other with a large fuel processing plant. This plant appears to be the aliens main target. We cannot let the aliens capture or destroy that facility.

This map is based on a idea I originally submitted to the DG1 community levels DLC several years ago. Obviously its changed a fair bit over the last year or more.

The original version of this map was amongst the first selected for the Steam Workshop. I always felt guilty about it because it was a bit plain and was done in a hurry with a limited selection of missions. I always intended to do a second, improved version, when I had the time and felt able to improve on what I had done. I had some time over the spring/summer so I carried on working on it. When it was ready I asked HPE if we could upload this as an update to the existing map, whilst the initial response was positive, there were technical issues.

As such, it now seems to me that the only way I can get the improved version of this map into the hands of the players who bought and played the original is to release this update here. ( The original has since been removed from the in game store at my request.)

The original map contained the following missions:
Story, Grinder, Super Grinder, No Red Towers, Limited Towers, Out Of Bullets.

The new version adds:
Story Leaderboard, Story Revisited, Baseless, Bridged, Fixed Resources, Flood, Turbo 5 & Turbo 10

Scoreboost should not be available in any mission.
Most of the newer missions (apart from Story-Leaderboard and Bridged,) have a couple of options on the Command Shuttle.

All missions have been beaten on Competitive Hard, with no cores lost. As such they may be a touch on the easy side for some players. My apologies and I wish you luck on Elite. You are a better/braver person than I.

The mission types you may not be familiar with are as follows:

Baseless: No boost towers.
Flood: Starts with a trickle, grows to a flood of aliens.
Bridged: Alternative route based on the command shuttle options. Otherwise, it is similar to flood.
Turbo 5 & Turbo 10. Quick fire waves, the final wave starts after the specified number of minutes.

Apart from a few minor changes this is the map submitted in to the HPE/Alienware competition in August 2014.

I have added medal values, ambient sound, classic scoring mode, fixed a problem with the original FOV, removed the scoreboost aura and added a story-leaderboard mission type.

It should however play as originally intended.

It has been tested to Competitive (No Sell) Hard mode, and beaten with no cores lost.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and help playtesting, then or since, and of course HPE & Alienware for running the competition.

There are only two mission types, Story and Story – Leaderboard. If there is sufficient interest/time then I may add more.

Please let me know in the comments below if you run into any problems.

Hmm, maybe not.

Its Christmas, have a slightly different and hopefully fun map to relax with.

Wow, that was truly awful… better get out there and defend the cores before the aliens inflict any more puns on us…

Be that as it may I do intend to add more mission types to this over the next few days/weeks. (There’s always leftovers with turkey right?)

Festive Turkey V1.2 – Leftovers

There was a problem with the leadeboards for Artillery and Baseless containing high scores left over from testing old versions of the scripts, and those scores no longer being attainable.

As such there are now two versions of Artillery, the old version with a clean leaderboard, and a new, harder, Tower Items version with the old leaderboard, plus a clean leaderboard for Baseless.

My apologies to the players who had posted scores to the old Artillery Leaderboard. I can only suggest that you post a new score on one of the new missions.

All missions use custom scripts based on the chapter 5 mission script Out Of Control. Whilst the scripts are mostly similar to each other there are little tweaks to better suit many of the missions specific requirements. Hopefully this will keep things interesting for you.

Available modes include: Story, Grinder, Power Outage, Focal Point, No Red Towers, Fully Loaded, Out Of Bullets, Frozen Core, Tower Limit, Super Grinder
Open Elite versions of the missions have now been added. These missions have higher difficulty and are for players looking to play Open Elite missions using Tower Upgrade Items.

Note. The Story/Campaign mission does not upload the score to the leaderboard, this is not something I can fix, it is a HPE issue. For this reason the Story/Campaign mission is considered to be a practice mission aimed at people who have few if any Tower Upgrade Items. As such, please use the Story – Leaderboard mission if you want to play on Comp Hard or play Story Open Elite if you want to play on Open Elite.

This map is a follow on from Part 1, originally built around the same time but only released much later. Slightly more tower build locations, but more spread out, it provides a different challange to Part 1. The spawn scripts for the different challenge modes are the same as for Part 1, although the difficulties and gold medal scores may have been adjusted slightly to suit the map.

The map, most of the missions and spawn scripts are the same as originally released. However a few tweaks have been added in terms of mode descriptions, medal scores and so on. And of course the recent addition of the TI missions.

It is perhaps worth noting that we couldnt edit/screate our own scripts at the point this map was first made, so these are almost all pure HPE scripts. If there are any overly long delays or difficulty spikes, it is because the scripts were not designed for this map. Having said that, some of the additional challenge modes not only use different scripts, but different rules as well.

I am still hoping to release a few more in this series although the number of tower tiles available will generally be higher than in the first two maps.

If you want to play on Open Elite I would advise trying one of the Open Elite modes as the difficulty has been adjusted to suit players using Tower Upgrade Items.

This map has not been made with entertainment in mind. I imagine it will be very boring for most players.

Instead this map has been put together for players to test how the scoring system works, to try and see how different approaches might affect your score, or just to try out different towers on some of the less common aliens. (I have been meaning to do one of these since autumn 2014, but life and other maps always kept getting in the way. So my apologies for the delay. 🙂 )

There are several tests. Different scenarios to try out, I guess you could say. Each test has several parts where one of the components of the scoring system has been changed.

Hopefully comparing results for similar tests will will make it easier for people to interpret the resulting changes to their scores.

I’ve not done any analysis on the results myself, as I dont want to prejudice what people find. If you want to, you can find how I believe the scoring system works in the comments below. That opinion may prove to be inaccurate. In the end though, provided we all understand the scoring system better at the end then the map will have achieved what was intended.

What is included:

Story – Standard mission script. Mainly here for completeness.

Test1 – Five Walkers. All the same health.
Test2 – Five Walkers. Rising health.
Test3 – One of each type of enemy.
Test4 – One Walker & one Crasher.
Test5 – One Crasher & one Walker.
Test6 – Turtle, Seeker, Landing Pod
Test7 – Bulwark, Spire, 2x Spire, Carrier
Test8 – Healer, Regenerator, 2xHealer

Each test has four versions.
i) No Trickle. No End of Wave Bonus.
ii) With Trickle. No End of Wave Bonus.
iii) With Trickle. With End of Wave Bonus set to 100.
iv) With Trickle. With End of Wave Bonus set to 500.

Unless otherwise noted all aliens have their health multiplier set to 1, ie 100% of base health.

I would suggest that to get the best use out of this map, you run one test, note your score and then run a slightly different test, building in exactly the same way and compare the scores. This should allow you to see the effect of changing conditions/scoring rules.

Or you could run exactly the same test, but vary the tower arrangement slightly to see how that changes the result and continue in that manner making only small changes and comparing the scores each time.

I’ve given it a bit of testing. It should do what its supposed to, but its still a work in progress really, so please do report any bugs / inconsistencies / problems you find below.

Likewise, if you think there needs to be any alterations to the timing/wave composition or have an idea for a new test, again, please post it below.

It is released as it was then, ie standard scripts & no adjustment to medal scores.

This also means that No Red Towers and Fully loaded have not as yet been tested properly, ie beaten on Competitive (Hard) with no cores lost. If you manage it, please post a comment with a score and a link to a screenshot.

I do intend to give this another polish pass to tweak the difficulties/scripts scores etc once my current projects have been cleared.
